Viva la shingles

Usually by now I've posted a shed load of images of Nelsonica, Harrogate and Knaresborough (a yank friend told me to visit). But you know how it is? I spent ages processing my images, posted 'em to Flickr etc, then the brown stuff hit the fan....ruddy shingles. Anyroad, I'm still very sore, but back at work thank whoever.

Anyway, here's a flickr slide show of my Knaresborough images, an amazing place, 9 minutes by train, up the track from Harrogate.

The Day After........ Christmas

Cottingham Railway Station. It was eerily silent save for the taxi rank round the corner.

The rain, favourable light, and some interesting architecture....

What could have been a 'washout', a wet Sunday in York, rapidly improved when I visited the York Art Gallery, not far from the Yorkshire Museum Gardens. The art gallery is surprisingly small for a major city (the Ferens in Hull seems much bigger and has more exhibits) but I enjoyed my visit nonetheless. Outside the rain had stopped, took a snap of some Japanese tourists photographing themselves outside the gallery building.

Took this shot of York Minster not long afterwards. The piled up chairs give the image a continental European feel in my opinion. Could be anywhere in France, Belgium for that matter....

Dusk, the River Ouse, York

Took this panoramic shot while enjoying a tea-time pint of best bitter outside the legendary 'Kings Arms' pub, camera placed strategically atop one of the tables by the riverside. It was a very relaxed occasion if memory serves me well.

Clifford's Tower - York, Exterior late afternoon

Another 'record' shot, but I like the quality of the light. The clocks had just gone back ( it's a Brit thing ), it was a decidedly chilly, late Autumn afternoon.

Not the 'Blitz'

This is what's left of a 'successful' demolition of the old 'Spillers' building a week or two ago. God knows how they are going to demolish the adjacent grain silo? It's right next to the local cocoa mills.

As you can see, it's a scene of utter devastation. Sadly, I missed the explosive demolition ( I understand it is on Youtube, but it's not the same as witnessing the spectacle first hand). Fred Dibnah would have loved it.
