Beautiful day

Well, what can I say? It's not yet May, but already today has been glorious weatherwise in Hull, as you can see by these snaps I took at 3pmish around the town centre not far from Queens Gardens. My excuse for being there was to buy a birthday present for my niece. Glad I took the timeout now. Weather forecast for Sunday and Monday......not very good. We shall see.

Oh, if you're wondering, the first vividly coloured image is of a flowerbed I just happen to be seated near whilst sipping a diet pepsi. It took my eye, I snapped away. Of late I seem to be developing, I suppose for want of a better word, an 'appreciation' of horticultural beauty. I haven't a clue what they're called but I like plants, foliage, anything that you stick in the ground and produces colour in all it's form and hues. It must be an age 'thang', oh well if it means I have a distraction when I sit down to rest my feet I don't care.

Just in case you think I've got fed up with manipulating images, check this out. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.

Some 'Wildlife' images

It's Mayday on Monday, another bank holiday in the UK. So I thought I'd have a 'fun' post for a change and a bit less of the arty farty.

I popped into Hull's East Park on my way home from work / shopping. It was a lovely, sunny spring day. Took some pics around the lake and 'Conservatorium'. Caught some wildfowl, the odd peacock and family of llamas as well as one very cheeky looking character. Enjoy!

Some more manipulations of an 'everyday' object

I'll give you a clue, it's well engineered and used by thousands of people in Hull daily.

Nothing to do with the above, but I finally got off my backside and installed my new firewire / usb 2.0 card properly into my 'pooter'. Just updated my ipod playlists. I can now listen to jazz, rock, ambient music to my taste. It's loaded full of Bill Nelson, Bill Frisell, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Django Rheinhardt and all manner of good shite.....hep cat!!!!!!

Let's shop

We all got to buy food, clothes, life's necessities..... Well, I usually do mine down Holderness road, or as it's affectionately known by East Hull residents - on't road.

Took some rather mundane snaps this evening after finishing work, mucked about with the images, like you do and 'hey presto'. Hopefully, I've captured some of the life, energy, grit and 'dogged determination' of your typical working class area of a 'Town In The North Of England' as the 'Home Service' of the BBC used to say in their daily radio broadcasts during the 'Blitz', when Hull was being bombed the shite out of.

Garden Village

Popped into Garden Village on my way home from work, laden with shopping (another story) and took these images. Garden Village was built to house workers at a well known local company, along much the same lines as Cadbury's Bourneville. It's a lovely place, literally in the 'inner city' off Holderness road, a busy traffic artery and shopping area. If you want to see more of Garden Village pop into my other blog 'A Song From Under The Floorboards'.

Rivetting

An abstract image, manipulated again. I wanted to add some texture, in what would have been a looking flat image.

Metalwork 2

A more conventional view of the subject, but still in closeup.

A closer look at a local bridge crossing the River Hull.

Continuing the floral theme

Continuing the 'Nature' theme here's a couple of cute shots I took in my parents garden.

A pleasant sight

Spotted this on a traffic island (a big one) this evening after having tea with my parents. Couldn't resist it. A sea of colour.

Frettin' again

All aboard

One of the first images I took with my camera; a tugboat plying the Humber, just off the pier at Hull. I couldn't resist the temptation to do some tinkering with the image.

Form / colour study

Thought I'd mess about with an image I took awhile back of a factory vent and saplings near my house. A 'compare and contrast'. With very slight manipulation I produced a study of shape / form simply by removing the detail - shades of grey?

Some 'conceptual' art

My own interpretation on one of Andy Warhols themes - everyday objects, as my response to Eva's challenge (read comments on previous post). I'd like to have colourised the image, but I don't have the appropriate software. Could make an interesting wallpaper, for my bathroom.

A spot of 'Twitching'

It's at times like this I'm really glad I carry my camera with me most of the time (geek alert!). Shame I don't have a powerful tele lens though.

Caught this magpie perched atop a tree this evening and took several shots. After some heavy cropping I came up with this image. It's far better than I'd anticipated.

I hope to capture more local flora and fauna later on in the year. I've not been able to capture any of the local rabbit or grey squirrel population, they're a bit nervous around these parts. You'd have thought living amongst traffic noise and vehicles they'd have gotten quite cocky. Still, one day I hope to bag an image of the infamous Stanislav Squirrelowski.

Ta ta for now pop pickers. Not 'arf.
